Building confidence as a team by looking at your strengths

What is this tool?

An introduction game where all participants are able to show their strengths and skills.

Why do we use it?

When you start working on a project together it helps to get to know each other in a fun way and to understand how everyone sees themselves in a creative and imaginative way.

A step-by-step guide

1. Each person creates their own superhero profile. Think about (and eventually write down on a piece of paper or on the worksheet):

  • Your superhero name
  • What your mission is as a superhero
  • What superpowers you have

Additionally, you could add:

  • What is your "kryptonite" (a weakness you have)
  • Who is your villain (the thing you are fighting against)
  • Who is your side-kick (someone helping you in achieving your mission)

Optionally: draw how your superhero would look like (this encourages the group to start drawing and make things visual)

2.  Take the time for every person to present themselves as a superhero to the group by sharing their name and their superhero profile. If you have a large group, you can make groups of 6-10 where people share and then make a gallery by placing all the profiles on the wall.

3. Look for insights on a shared group mission and how the members are complimentary. This can be done by the group on a plenary discussion or by the facilitator.

How to use the outcomes of the tool?

The superhero profiles can be used during a longer workshop or for the whole duration of a project to remind everyone of the strengths you have as a team and to showcase what drives each team member.
